Every summer it gets hot. Logical it's summer after all. However what makes it hotter is if I have a Bedroom kitty the bedroom door is closed. As windows with screens can only be opened about an inch, so that if the cat decided to push against the screen and rip it they can't escape, there is not a lot of air circulation so this makes it even hotter. Sleeping can be tough. I love the kitties so I have sucked it up for many years. Now, thanks to a bit of DIY inspiration I don't need to sweat it out any longer.
I made a door. It's simple, inexpensive and best of all it is entirely cat proof. If necessary I can attach a privacy shield that's a few feet high if the cats on either side do not get along. In addition to the wonderful world of air circulation there have been some unexpected side effects. After the initial investigation, which included climbing up the door, both Drake and Nynja are content to lay at the door when I am having quality time with Delta. No mournful meowing and even better no trying to sneak into a room they KNOW they are not suppose to be. How do I know they know? Because as soon as Drake comes in he "hides" under the mirror. Another bonus, Delta, who does not like other cats in her space now comes to the door and looks at the rest of the house. She now feels more comfortable when I enter the room and sometimes even stays put as I move around. The cats are getting to know each other as well, in a safe manner where they can't try to maim, dominate etc.
The door is 8 feet tall going almost to the ceiling. It's made from 3 wires shelves zip-tied together. It's zip-tied to the wall attached with circular screws every few feet and there is an eye and hood for closing on the other side. To keep it closed when I am inside I am using a bungee cord around the back of the solid door. The privacy screen is removable plastic rug that I have seen over the years covering carpeted entryways.
