While I await the arrival of Drakes potential adoptive family I thought I should introduce you to the Jabberwocky Babies! They are so named as I have chosen the names from the Lewis Carroll poem. In rescue you often need a plethora of different names that will grab interest and when trying to name 24 unique names you need some type of theme. I have included a random assortment of photos taken over the last week. If you want to see all the photos please click here.

Litter one turned one month old yesterday. For their birthday present they were separated into boys and girls and given chicken and peas. There are 4 girls and 8 boys. The Girls are Mimsy, Outgrabe, Wock and Jubjub. This means the boys are Brillig, Slithy, Toves, Gyre, Gimble, Wabe, Borogrove, and Jabber. Though their personalities have not yet come out fully they are all friendly and inquisitive. They love to try new things and do not like carrots.

Litter 2 turned 3 weeks old today. the mix of boys and girls is a little more even for this litter. 6 and 6. The girls are: Frabjous, Tumtum, Beamish, Tugley, Galumph, and Snicker and the boys are Frumious, Uffish, Vorpal, Manxome, Callay and Burble. They live with their moms and aunt stil. They are still nursing a little but eating more and more solid food every day. These little ones love grapes. It's amazing what a difference a week makes. When they arrived they were tiny, some not even the size of my thumb. Their eyes were just starting to open and they could move around in a wobbly fashion. Now they can run they have doubled in size. Part of this is them being able to have complete access to the milk without the big kids getting there first. The other is that rats grow fast.

In the wild a female rat can get pregnant hours after giving birth and gestation is 3 weeks so technically these little ones would be on their own now. Good thing we are not in the wild.
