There is one sure fire way to see what a favorite cat toy is.

I do have a toy box which the cats root around in looking for a toy that they want. Hunting for the perfect plaything. It's also a good way to see if a particular toy has fallen out of favour. However the feather toy on a string I have to hide if I want it to last more than a day. As soon as the little bell rings cats come running. It's one of the consistent favorite toys among all the cats. Other similar toys are not the same. Thankfully it's easy to make. A pen cap, a few feathers, a string, bell and glue from a glue gun. Everything but the pen caps come from a great store on Main Street that re purposes factory leftovers so you never know what you are going to get but you know it's going to be good.
