A lot has happened since my last post. Brillig, Vorpal and Uffish went to a great family. One rat for each of the kids and one for thier parent. After playing with the boys they picked their favorites and took them home. they showed me a picture of the cage and those boys will never want for anything. Beamish and Slithy went home with another young family. They fell in love with the photos and took their boys home with glee. Having never had rats before this will be a great experience for them as Beamish and Slithy are two very well behaved young ratties.
With fewer rats it was time to try to combine cages. Unsure how Francisco Awesome would relate to the young ones we started slow. All hanging out in the bathtub. Well, they were in the tub, not me. Francisco Awesome has the young ones on their back in a show of dominance. The little ones went over with little fight. Except Gyre. Gyre tried to be top banana but Francisco Awesome wasn't having any of it and being twice Gyre's size it wasn't hard to put him in his place. the next step was putting them in an empty cage that neither had been in for a bit. Again everything went well. Step three, trade cages. Not sure how Francisco Awesome felt about that has he does have the bigger cage. Then, after giving the cage a really good clean all the boys started living together.
Today, Gyre and Gimble were adopted. Again to a young family. New to rats but very excited. The boys were full of energy and wanted to run around everywhere. We spent half our time picking our which rats and the other half trying to keep them from leaving the cage unattended. Silly boys. I'm kind of glad that those two went together as Burble and Francisco Awesome spend lots of time hanging out together in the hammock together. I think Francisco Awesome feels the most comfortable with Burble as they look similar so he is not reminded of his nemesis Fluffy.
Maybelle has also been adopted. A very friendly couple was so excited to have her. She let them pet her at her viewing and they fell in love.
