16 hours after the plane landed I have two new cats. Both are semi-feral and have never met so are in two different places until their behavior indicates they can take the next step and meet each other.
Wilson is newish to the indoors. She's about a year old and has been in the system since late August. She was trapped with her kittens in Surrey. We had a less than auspicious introduction. As I lifted the carrier cover she hissed and swatted at me. I can't really blame her as she had been driven from Surrey to Ops and then to my place so had been in the carrier for several hours at that point. Once alone in the bathroom she quickly vacated the carrier and hid under the sink. A day later she is peering at me from the safety of the hollow scratching bucket when I enter the room. She may be trying to plot her escape so I have the door blocked off with a folding screen that I can pull closed behind me before I open the door.
She hasn't eaten much yet. Nibbled at the Friskies and disdained the First Mate, so now we are adding the dried duck on First Mate. If that doesn't work then I have to pull out the big guns, Tuna, as I need to get her eating again. Then I can worry about eating healthy.
Tan is also a scared little cat. She is about 3 and had a short experience in foster care earlier in her life. It was decided that she was just too feral and would never tame enough so was released. Tan however had different ideas. She eventually made her way into someones air vent in their manufactured home. After a while they heard her meowing. She was trapped and brought in. When she arrived here she was so scared she had gone still. As in, "If I don't move you can't see me" still. I was told that she was very particular in her food choices and would only eat Friskies mixed with First Mate. This I have found in not true. She is now eating First Mate and eating it all. No worries there.
One day later she is leaving the security of the window ledge to eat while I am sitting mostly motionless in bed only a few feet away. First she needs to check and make sure my attention is elsewhere. Thank goodness for peripheral vision as I am tracking her. Even while eating, after every few bites she needs to look up to see if I am paying attention. Of course she is still chewing while looking, after all why should a semi-threatening situation interrupt dinner. She has the best meow. It sounds almost like disgruntled talking. I look forward to discovering if this is her true voice, or just her new situation voice.
