Delta's new owner sent me an update on how she has been doing in her new place as well as some photos.
"We had a bit of an interruption when Chulie (formerly Delta) post adoption vet visit discovered a mammary tumour (benign) that had to be removed three weeks into adopting her. I found her to very timid and quick to run and hide and at times she would hiss, usually when startled. When she came home after her tumour surgery, I felt it might put her progress back, however, it actually helped the bond grow between us. She allowed me closer and more frequent access, enabling me to pamper her and earn her trust. The first time she jumped in my bed with me in it, she was just starting to feel a bit better from her surgery and
beginning to get used to wearing the cone. She made great strides in the weeks that followed and now I can hardly remember that scared little kitty that I first brought home a little over two months ago.
For the past month she has come out of her shell quite a bit more, enjoying access to the whole apartment and has been able to hang out whenever she feels comfortable, which has been more than I expected at this point. She is very receptive to petting and play and gets loving care every day, which I see is definitely paying off in her growth and trust levels. She currently has been much more social with hanging out with me, lots more play and extended petting sessions in all areas of the apartment. I can even get her to hop on my lap momentarily for treats. I can easily pet her face, head, neck and down her spine to tail. She is still wary of quick movements and loud noises and with time I am sure her nervousness will diminish even more. Her progression since her surgery adventure has been very good and I have been giving her daily Zylkene to help with her anxiety.
Now I can’t imagine being without her and that’s exactly what I was hoping for. With continued love and support in her happiness, I really think her potential is limitless and I am looking forward to our upcoming adventures."
