I just can't say no to my coordinator. There was a large trap of several cats for several days and then nothing. A day or so later there was one more kitten caught. Then no more. This left a little kitten at odds. Normally this would not be an issue except she REALLY didn't like people, super hissy and spitty and was giving the work dog at Ops the evil eye. The request for a foster was experienced with ferals only. As I already had 4 cats and family coming for the holidays I did not volunteer.
However after 3 days no one had stepped up. My coordinator sent me a photo and talked me into it. I did negotiate for stress free cat sitting services for Easter. I hate trying to get someone to look after as as I don't know how many I have and that sometimes they are special needs it's sometimes hard to get a sitter.
So this is Rae Rae. A 9 week old kitten who lives in a kennel in my room. Yes she hisses and spits but she also loves to get attention. She's small enough that I can just completely ignore her bit of temper. After only a few days she is much better and will sit in my lap. We have lots of petting sessions where she purrs up a storm, rubs herself against me and has mastered the scratch my tail pose.
Unfortunately she is not eating very well. I tried just the dry food she came with, just wet food, watered down and smushed wet food but nothing tempted her. She was eating so little. Today I had to bring out the big guns. Tuna. I held her in my lap and basically smushed (gently) a combo of wet food and tuna into her mouth with my fingers until she started eating it. Then another finger full and another and another. Rae Rae got tired of this and got off my lap and back into her kennel. I then mixed more tuna with the left over cat food while it balanced on my knee. She came out of the kennel and up on my lap where she stood and started chowing down. I hope that this is a sign of regular eating from now on. Sometimes when you remind them about food and get them eating by any means necessary they will eat the "normal" food without prompting.
Salta and Pepper have gone to another foster home for possibly just the holidays or possibly until they get adopted. We haven't clarified yet. Tan as well as Dewdney and Wilson have had viewings in the last two days. The viewing with Tan went well but they decided that she wasn't the cat for them as she basically ran and hid from them. It was probably for the best as they weren't patient enough to wait for her to come on her terms. The couple who came today were not only graced with Dewdney coming out for treats, and a little touching, but Tan hung out with us as well. Wilson hid in the window sill but did stick her head out to see what was going on. I was very proud of all the girls, they did great!
