There is something I've learned about cats. They like to use the litter box and when they don't then it is up to us to figure out what is wrong. Sometime it's simple and sometimes not. Kittens sometimes just forget and other times it's a medical issue but often it's situational.
Recently Kanta and I had a such moment. Unfortunately it started while I was away for a week and I didn't notice for a few days after I got back. Kanta, Greymann and Scooty-Pup were sharing a room and Greymann was harassing Wilson so I gave the boys a permanent time out. Kanta was still living in the closet so I thought it would not be so bad. Unfortunately it didn't turn out as I had hoped. She no longer felt comfortable being in an open area and using the litterbox so she decided under the chair was better.
Lucky for the chair her urine did not stain the legs, unlucky for the carpet it had to be thrown out. It was an old carpet that I was considering getting rid of as well. Once I removed the chair, and the carpet I scrubbed and scrubbed the floor. Several hours over several days. Though slightly stained there is no more urine smell. I used vinegar as though natures Miracle is amazing, Vinegar is a little more versatile.
I knew then that the boys had to go to another foster home as it would be less stressful for them to leave than her. Even with a litterbox in the closet she still peed on some clothes that fell on the floor and then on an old bag while we waited for a new home to be lined up. Once the boys were gone there were no more issues.
A few weeks later Kanta met her forever parent and she is happy as the only cat in the home.
